EMSELLA for Urinary Incontinence

Take a step toward better bladder control with BTL EMSELLA at Gastonia Spine & Sport. This non-invasive treatment uses high-intensity focused electromagnetic (HIFEM®) energy to stimulate the pelvic floor muscles and support improved neuromuscular control.

EMSELLA is designed to help address urinary incontinence by delivering thousands of pelvic floor muscle contractions during a single treatment session. Unlike traditional pelvic floor exercises, the treatment stimulates the entire pelvic floor area while you remain fully clothed.

What Is BTL EMSELLA?

BTL EMSELLA is a completely non-invasive treatment that uses HIFEM® technology to stimulate the pelvic floor muscles. The electromagnetic energy produces intense contractions similar to Kegel exercises, helping strengthen and re-educate the pelvic floor muscles.

A single session delivers thousands of contractions that would be difficult to achieve through voluntary exercise alone. The treatment is designed to stimulate the entire pelvic floor area and support pelvic muscle rehabilitation and bladder control.

Who Can Benefit From EMSELLA?

Urinary incontinence is the involuntary leakage of urine and can occur when the pelvic floor muscles become weakened. Changes associated with childbirth, menopause, aging, and other physiological factors can contribute to pelvic floor weakness.

EMSELLA may be an option for men and women experiencing urinary incontinence, including:

  • Stress incontinence: Leakage caused by pressure on the bladder, such as during coughing, laughing, sneezing, or exercise.
  • Urge incontinence: A sudden, intense need to urinate that can result in leakage.
  • Mixed incontinence: A combination of stress and urge incontinence.

What Happens During an EMSELLA Treatment?

EMSELLA is designed to be simple and comfortable. You remain fully clothed during treatment, although loose-fitting clothing is recommended for proper positioning.

Once treatment begins, you may feel tingling and vibrations in the pelvic floor area followed by muscle contractions. The intensity can be adjusted by your healthcare provider to keep the treatment comfortable and tolerable.

A typical session takes approximately 28–30 minutes. You can relax, read, or watch television during the treatment and return to your normal activities immediately afterward.

How Many EMSELLA Treatments Are Needed?

Your provider will develop a treatment plan based on your individual needs. The materials provided by BTL describe a typical course of approximately six treatments scheduled twice per week.

Some patients may notice improvement after a single session, with results typically continuing to improve over the following weeks. Individual results vary.

Is EMSELLA Right for You?

BTL EMSELLA may be an option for patients experiencing urinary incontinence who are looking for a non-invasive approach to pelvic floor muscle stimulation. Your healthcare provider can evaluate your symptoms and determine whether EMSELLA is appropriate for you.

BTL’s patient materials identify several situations in which EMSELLA may not be appropriate, including certain metal implants, pregnancy, tumors, and heart disorders. This is not a complete list of contraindications. Your healthcare provider should review your medical history and the full range of warnings and precautions before treatment.
